hmm cant find it in my config but ill try it later when i find a cheat protected server It's mostly likely in a config.cfg, you load up normal Q2 which has s_initsound 1, then your sound system is loaded. Then you connect to an AQ2 server which switches to game action, causing the action/config.cfg...

anticheat clients and server info

Hello. It seems quite a few people here haven't heard about my latest Q2 project, a half-decent anticheat. Unlike other previous anticheat clients, this one is a bit more flexible in that it supports multiple Q2 clients - currently R1Q2, AprQ2 and EGL, although only on 32 bit Windows 2000/XP/2003 at...

Using Q2Admin on your server? Exploit time!

Found a nice exploit in Q2Admin 1.17 and derivatives... see this thread for the full details: http://www.r1ch.net/forum/index.php?topic=253.0

Whenever you release a fixed/updated version of a map you should always change the .bsp filename or you will end up with version conflicts.

You also copied WizardExt's bugs too :D.

Run your maps through http://r-1.ch/mapcheck/ before releasing to spot any potential problems.

The env map .pcx files are 24 bit versions which will crash software mode.

You may find this tool useful for future releases:

This is what happens when you don't use different .bsp names for each revision :). Perhaps there is an old version in baseq2/maps, in a .pak file, who knows... then add on some servers running it and some not, some clients updated and some not, it gets very messy.

Btw can anyone verify if the U_REMOVE bug has been removed? It would be very much appreciated. I gave some feedback on this issue - the original map had waaay too many brush models, and combined with some misused hint brushes and the entire map being the PVS this resulted in too many entities visib...

You should really change the .bsp name - eg time-v2.bsp so that you don't get half the servers using an old version and half the players using a new version. I guarantee you will have people getting problems otherwise :).

"Compatibility" is actually the best setting in either case. "Performance" locks the primary DirectSound buffer which is highly recommended against by the SDK. "Compatibility" uses the secondary buffers as a normal DX app should.

Method 2 will pretty much always report your lowest ping regardless of how much bandwidth you are using. The reasoning is most people who are playing Q2 know better than to have stuff uploading in background :). Perhaps some standard deviation or some other crazy statistics thingy can be used to try...
