Use a modern client like the one from http://www.kweik.com or http://www.actionquakeonline.com and edit the command line like so:

Makes it run in 1920x1080

Heed my call oh ye far Western Hemispherions! We need some players to act as target practice for our group. Hosting 5 servers with no one but ourselves as players is depressing.

Are you using a video card, or are you using onboard video? It looks like you need to do a proper video driver reinstall.

Can you launch Q2 in software mode instead of OpenGL? See if that works, if it does then it's definitely a video driver/OpenGL issue
