I do understand why angra sees the need of a more readable killmsg. Of cause something like x [sniper] y would be more readable. All I did was questioning this because the long, actionmovie-alike statements are a part of the feeling in/around AQ2. If this is done it should be done client side. This shouldn't be so hard either... hell, I could probably write that patch if I wanted to (I don't :P). Just do a find and replace on the kill message in the client, and change it to something else before actually printing it on the screen. This way all the server traffic/messages would be kept as the are* and people could still set their custom kill messages. Then again, I like the kill messages, but as someone said, that's just me.


*it's always a bad idea to change something that has been in a certain way, I know that for example my DemoStats program would stop working... and I bet there are other programs/scripts/things that are dependant on those kill messages as well.

Actually I think that the freedom of choice is brilliant. The more choices everyone has the better, and especially when it comes to something as trivial as deathmessages. I'm much more unsure of is f.ex. the use of other than default textures, than I am about changing the death messages, which doesn't really impact the game in any way.

The only thing I'm saying is that one has to be a bit careful about how this is done (if it is done) so that you don't break something else.

Well well...

It's possible to implement that idea.

Since you have all data in current killmessages it may be easiest for a client to have some sort of killmessage parser that filters the messages to a new hud-element -- which then looks like the CS killsigns.

Should'nt be too hard.

I see no reason to change something serverside, either mod or serverbinary, since it would need also changes clientside whereas, as said, for this feature to work, clientside changes would be enough.

I`m for alternative client side death messages and for center print message when u kill someone for example You killed n00b! O_o :D Its in Paintball2 and it looks great. :hop:

That thing would suck. This is not cs. I can read easily who killed who. Or wich weapon did he kill him.
