I would rekommend buying a mp3player with a built in usb connector, ie one which you arent forced to use some kind of extension cord to connect to a computer. Also i would never buy a device which would force me to use a certain software.

I used to have a jens of sweden mp-110, which was really great.. but got stolen a month ago, now i have a samsung yp-u1x and im quite satisfied.

I have two ipod minis and an ipod nano. The battery life on the nano is so much better than that of the mini, which were widely reported to have power problems anyway. Not that I mind charging whatever battery based devices I need to use. They're also the nicest looking.

on my computer i dont have room to use those kind of adapters because the connector is on the "wrong side" of the mp3 player, so it wont fit, i prefer cable
