well we got our own community page and forum (AQ2Suomi) back in 2001, ACP anticheat proxy back then too, aq2 LAN+championships next summer and we still gather a lot of new players. but yeah, it depends what you mean by evolving :/

it's a pity that aq2 isn't as popular in other countries as it is in finland.

don't get me wrong, i don't mean to brag, just answered to your question. you know what else is a pity? the fact that other countries diss finland (more or less) - not all of course.

There's a certain negative tone in that comment.

All i see here is : finland > all other countries
I think both sides contribute equal amounts of shit (myself probably included) to that discussion :P

Haudrauf, when I read your reply I'm starting to wonder if you really understand what I write, or if you are just guessing what you should write as a reply..

Due to the amount of various clients out there woudln't it be easier to have some "central" for the game where you have the game browser and configuration stuff, than all of the various clients making their own, say you go to the steam program, and go to "configure nocheat" then you get the nocheat specific options and you get to set the nocheat.exe path etc, that would be smoother in my oppinion

Why I wrote about the non-finish community didn't seem to connect to you either, I wrote that because the finish scene is going strong, and if I'm not wrong, still growing, while the non-finish scene is shrinking every day

Den, comments like "HIP HIP f#ckING HOORAY FOR FINLAND!!!" and then seeing you say "Why dont u ppl get along" makes me wonder too, the finish community is the biggest one, and we know that without even counting, overall they have the most people contributing too I'd guess, with all the public and clanwar servers, aq2suomi, gsbot, apr quake and so on. I'm not saying other countries doesn't do shit, but in comparison it's not alot unless you combine all other countries :P

How many people have the internet connection required to set up a dedicated aq2 server? beats me, but I'm guessing there are alot more than people accualy doing it. If I had the connection I would, but that's not the case.

The problem with some finish people though, is that since their community is the biggest, they ignore or talk down on people not belonging to it, but that shouldn't be a matter discussed in this topic I think, flaming them won't help, making them your friends will. :P

I don't have anything against finish people, but I do have something aganist people that think they are above others, because someone else in their country did something great, like seeing some people flaming me and saying that the GSBOT is from finland.. so what, Cendor made it, not you :P

That would be a bad assumption.

I know what I have seen from other gaming-scenes - And I am not taking the Half-Life "scene" as an archetype:

There are many clients out there, every client has something in special, but there is ONE client which unifies all features of 'em. The best features survive. You can call this "Darwin's Way of Quake2-Client Evolution".

And then... you can always have your Q2-Clientstarter (as you want to have it, right?) for about five different Q2-clients.

I have a better and more unified Q2-client on my wishlist. You do have some Clientstarter on your wishlist. Ok, sounds well.

So, now it's 2004. Tell me the current finish receipt to get a healthy aq2-community?! What is the finish scene doing better than any other scene?

Perhaps then, I will understand. (Or not)

I see your point with the "univerasl" client, but the problem is, will there ever be one like it? To put all the best parts from all the clients together, who would be the one to decide what the best parts are? It would be good with a client like this, but that's up to the client programmers. So I'm not saying I don't want to see what's on your wishlist, but it just doesn't feel like that's going to happen soon, but maybe I'm wrong, seems like I am all the time.. :P

I don't have a clue, but it seems to attract more people, but I don't know why, maybe cs isn't as popular over there? I can't remember ever hearing about a finish cs player, while on the other hand the swedish cs community is awfully huge :P These are just speculations since I don't know shit about the finish cs community, but for some reason more fins pick aq2.

First of all I would like to thank Hawk for doing a really good effort :)

Secondly I would like to correct him when it comes to the difficulty of getting clanwars. As many other games we've (iN) had problems getting a cw at a certain time of day, but nonetheless we've played an immense ammount of clanwars during the past months. Us playing alot of cws may be caused by our great leadership :D (Being a pretty active guy I'm having trouble keeping up with all the cws) My biggest problem when it comes to clanwars is certain Finnish clans refusing to play none .fi servers. This really get me aggitated, as it's not helping the aq2 community for the allready existing players. This only conserns a limited amount of clans, and does not consern .fi people in general!

Thirdly I would like to thank everybody involved with the organizing of CotT and EAQL (admins etc.)

And it's coder is russian. Love him.

Q2pro's 3rd person view can really be like wallhack, so i think its quite cheatish. Otherwise q2pro is pretty useful for handling with demos.

If you want quake look a bit better, I suggest AprQuake2 1.61 client. And besides it has one other very nice ability among many: autorecord (i couldnt live without it :( ).

IMO apr quake is that. it has almost all the things coders have improved in q2 putting it in one client -- except anti-cheat, which doesn't make it popular somewhere since people almost blindly believe that if you have nocheat you don't cheat. anyway, i don't think cheating is a big issue these days, i guess 95+% percent of the people who cheat use those cheats in public servers, not clanwars.
