Give me a Linux version and i'm all in.

Sure, you can set gl_driver whatever you like as the above screenshot shows, but try doing a vid_restart after that, and you'll either crash (AprQ2) or fall back to software mode since Q2 can't load that DLL. If it was part of his config, then one would expect it to be set to openg32. When switching game types (baseq2 -> action) Q2 does a vid_restart, if at that point he didn't crash or fall back to sw mode it is likely openg32.dll existed and was loaded.
Using APRQ2 1.20, if I set gl_driver to some nonexistent lib/driver, it will just state that it's falling back to the default "libGL.so" (after doing a vid_restart), and a server gl_driver check will still print the nonexistent driver.
Btw, when there are gl_driver checks done on the server my client will report "libGL.so", as it is the driver (and the default too) on Linux.

Go to your aq2 folder, open your autoexec.cfg, change
gl_driver "opengl32" to
"openHF32" (which doesn't exist in your quake2 folder), save changes, run AprQ2 1.20 and take a look what will happend.
Have sth like this?
