Hmm, optimal drivers for playing aq2 with radeon 9800pro ?

Ok, as some may know the newer Radeon cards kind of SUCK in compatibility with games running on q2 engine (like aq2) when using new drivers. My current situation is that if I want to play Doom 3 (for example) I gotta have the "new" drivers installed. If I wanna play aq2 (with more then 50 fps O_o ) I gotta install like old (Manne gave'em to me, atleast some other kind of drivers) that Doom3 (for example) does not work with...

Ok, so my question is if someone knows a nice set of drivers who is actually working well with old games like q2 AND new games like D3...

And no uninteresting comments that the problems may occur because of my other computer speccs, I have a p4 2.6, 1024 pc3200 DRR etc. etc. blabla and before I bought the Radeon 9800pro I had an gf4 ti4200 and that worked perfectly for all games except, well, ye Doom3 B>

catalyst 4.5 are the latest that will work. all later will fail. dunno why this is... drivers are fucked.

4.5 works ok with doom3, thou the new ones are faster.

becouse of this "glitch" and the prices of the new cards i'm pretty disappointed about ati atm. the 9800pro was/is a great card whatsoever.

I use Catalyst 4.8-03 drivers. I think they are the latest drivers that work fair with Q2. Any newer drivers will drop fps remarkably.

I'm using:

wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-03-040610a-016126c.exe

Doom3 works and I get about 250 fps in aq2..

drivers

Using Catalyst drivers is like intetntionally hindering your graphics card from acheving its true potential... The only way to go is to use Omega drivers. I have Club3d Radeon 9800 PRO 128 mb I do about 450 fps in q2 timedemo and timerefresh can be anything from 400fps-2000fps in aq2. At the same time I get above 6000 points in 3dmark'04. Both old and new optimized.

I have two ATI Radeon 9800 Pros. I bought a new one because I thought the old was was broken. It turns out that it was just a problem with the drivers I was using. Catalyst 4.6 were fucking shit.

Use 4.7 and everything should be fine. I use these with Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Action Quake 2. Everything runs fine.

I went postal and got my friend to uninstall XP/install ME on 'my' comp, since it was he who fucked it up in the first place I thought it only fair. Don't know what catalyst I was using but it was a ye olde one for the RADEON 9600 series. With the old ones I had around 200 fps and everything was peach but with the newest ones I got 27 farken fps! (note: running crusher.dm2)

In a way I kinda miss XP 'cause the comp went smoother in general but hey! I needed a quick fix of fps or I'd die or sumthn... :?

Yeah, I just tested them just now. They had to go. I now use Catalysts 4.7. I can send them to you (anyone) if you want. Clowneh @ Quakenet.

The drivers work perfect... I get like 200-300fps in a timerefresh and it never drops so much that I can feel it in the game even during the most intense firefights... It works with all other games I have as well... FINALLY, I can play again... :D
