I've been having this little problem with lag occuring all the time.. :(
The other night, Hawk and I found a thing, that we think may have to do with this..
I'm adding some pictures to explain what I mean.
Look at the r_speeds and compare, mine and hawks.. :(

I've tried ALL drivers, when it comes to ATI cards, tried radeon 8500, 9600XT
I've also tried GF2MX400, and now, im currently using a Geforce 4 ti4800
Motherboard, ram, soundcard, also changed.. :(
The problem remains :(
Anyone?

1: Get a new PC and OS.
2: Get a new AQ2 install.
Those will work. :)

bah! i hate you
but actually, i've done all that
It's not just aq2 that lag, Q3 does it to... but r_nocull 0 fixes the problem mentioned above though.. r1ch was kind enough to enlighten me about this little cmd.
The "lag" occurs not all the time, but it's more like, in intervals.. and very random.
Normally, i would say it occurs more frequently the longer i play.
When i load a game, then it's smooth and nice for like 10-15seconds, then it starts to lag, and then it suddenly goes away for some seconds.. just to return after a few seconds...
after a while, the laggin is almost constant...
It's not:
graphicscard - tried 3 of them, 8500, 9600XT, GF4 ti4800
memory - bought new memory when i bought a new mobo, recently.
motherboard - brand new.
soundcard - also new.
harddrive - new.
computer case - new, with a 450w powersupply, i don't think there will be a shortage of supplied amps..
monitor - new

other one burned
this is driving me nuts...
I had the same problem on the old "system" to..

r1ch has been trying to help me out with a similar problem as well.
This is what you should try, using r1q2, to track down the problem:
Code: Select all
set developer "1"
set con_filterlevel "4"
set logfile "1"
set logfile_timestamp_format "[%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S] "
bind [BUTTON] "lag"
alias lag "say_team If u see this message, it means I'm suffering from client-side 'lag'; irvision; echo now; irvision"
This logs
everything that happens during your game. If the problem happens, and u lag, u press the button, so u can track down where in the log this happens. Then u contact r1ch about it, he might be able to help you with it.

maniac once advised me to use set logfile 2, because it writes the log as it goes, and doesn't buffer it like the value 1 does, or something like that.

might be different for r1q2 though.

true, but i still think that it's the same, since it's (as far as i know) in the original quake2.exe too :p

I think I've solved my problem, I changed my powersupply unit.
Earlier, i used a 450W Qtec, DualFan unit, when i had the problems...
I tried my brothers 400w noname PS-unit, and p0ff, the problems are gone...
weird shit..

Indeed... that must have been one über faulty powersupply.
But I have seen worse... Dont ever get a computer-fixing-based job
