1on1

after hearing about the reach for the sky project, i instantly played around with some ideas. i never liked 1on1 for Action Quake 2 since it's played in teamplay-round mode, so it gets very slow and frustrating.

what if there was votable server config which loaded this:

you have a primary weapon, a pistol and a knife (just like teamplay). you can change your primary weapon at any time during the game (just like in ctf mode). when you die you re-spawn instantly (no rounds, just keep playing).

i think this is important. we can't have 1on1 played as teamplay. it just isn't any fun. its slow and frustrating. action quake 2 is a fast paced game and should absolutely have an interesting 1on1 mode.

Excellent WizardExt! That's just what we need! Why didn't I think of that myself :D

I play alot of 1on1 with my friend cen1sh. What bothers us the most is all the time we spend waiting between the rounds. We love deathmatch though, but we don't love running around looking for weapons. You get tired of using the mk23 all the time, and the other player sprays you down with his m4 the second you spawn. Some maps don't even have weapons placed around the map.

Could somebody try and make it happen code wise? Shouldn't be that hard.

Play deathmatch if you want to play a fast paced 1on1. I do it alot, and it's faster in every way compared to what you have suggested. Deathmatch adds the elements of timing ammo respawns and controling unique weapons and items so that the opponent only gets to use his pistol.

Just give him lots of personal compliments, this will prevent him going into 'machine-mode'...

I have this little thing, i'm remebering, isn't it possible to change the time between rounds..? I'm pretty sure it's possible.. :(

you had that mode "tourney" with the latest aq2tng version, dont remember exactly how it worked, but you could might try that out

In the tourney mode server random picks 2 players (first round). The winner stays in game and gets a new enemy if there are more players on the server. Something like that :o

the most important thing if you ask me is to get rid of the round mode thing in 1on1. when you die, you shoudl respawn imidietly so there is always action and you can't slow the game down if you feel you are loosing the lead by just idle dead.

maybe you could get full life and ammo when fragging someone, so you don't get weaker.

Yep, some sort of 1on1 battle where the winner stays and if you are with 4 for.ex. you'll start playing vs no.2, if you win you'll play vs no.3, if you loose then no.3 will play vs no.4 etc, it can be that it is in any random order though.. not sure about that.
