..begin with an essential thing that makes ActionQuake2 ActionQuake2. Leg-Damage!

As said many times and often told to different serveradmins:

q2admin.txt:

Code: Select all

;
; Sets the minimum cl_maxfps that a client may have.
;
minfps "25"

edit: And that "temporary fix" is to do:

Code: Select all

rcon sv !minfps 25
on those servers that have q2admin. Perhaps others want to know it too.

Myst did a temporary thing now
<MysteryMan> i changed it to 30 angra
<MysteryMan> on all servers
<MysteryMan> though if they restarted
<MysteryMan> it's back to normal
So the admins have time to change it in there cfgs.

It's not like there's players exploiting this.. and if there is, it's pretty easy to spot.

Yes, players do use this 'bug' and yes, it is easy to spot, though you can't do jack shit about it. So admins, do your job :#:

"already" noticed this "hack"?

i've known this kind of cheat for a long time, but i actually didnt think that admins would care. and so far as i know its only r1q2 that can use it?

there are not many r1q2 aq'ers out there. more likely q2'ers. and they have no use for that low fps usage. so its possible that very few people knew about this. im sorry for not being reporting this to you.

I don't think this is client related.

It's not. But maybe with r1q2 you can maintain a good fps and make the server believe you are using a low fps because of two different commands. :x

Yes. R1Q2's r_maxfps defines your rendered fps, cl_maxfps defines how many packets to send to the server. So you can have a cl_maxfps 30 but still have a smooth screen running at say, 120 fps.

Quake2.exe originally sends one netpacket per rendered frame.
