llsound 1 and lag

Hey guys, right as Franki has bought up in a different thread he's reported that llsound 1 cause him lag, a couple of other players have said this to. Now franki did approach me to change the llsound setting on jolt because of this lag which I thought fair enough if it causes lag ok. So I went of and talked to some of the developers of TNG.

(18:36:50) (Gazz-) JBravo when u get this message have you heard of the following. A euro player says that with llsound set to 1 a 40 ping feels like an 80 ping and with it set to 0 it seems fine. Any thoughts how I could test this ??

(18:37:28) (@sLiCeR[dW]) llsound..

(18:37:37) (@JBravo) lowlag

(18:37:39) (@sLiCeR[dW]) that's the lowlag..

(18:37:44) (@sLiCeR[dW]) no.. you're wrong..

(18:37:48) (@JBravo) He's smoking something I think

(18:37:54) (@sLiCeR[dW]) right :P

(18:38:17) (@sLiCeR[dW]) llsound will NEVER causa any sort of lag.. of any kind

(18:38:26) (@JBravo) All llsound does is to send one message for each sound instead of two

(18:38:33) (@sLiCeR[dW]) and only very low connections will benefit from it

(18:38:47) (@JBravo) cutting down the client <-> server communications

(18:42:59) (Gazz-) yeah thought as much, thanks guys.

So there you have it llsound will NEVER cause any lag, so is it a case people say oh yes it causes me lag because one person said it so everyone with lag follows suit figuring that to is there explanation for lag when its infact its there connection etc ... so has it just kinda spread as a rumour ie something for people to blame there lag on or is there some merit in this statement ?

Seeing as its so few people have reported this you'd think that everyone would be effected eg there 50 ping feeling like and 100 ping and so on why are only some people effected ?

So to clear this up once and for all is there anyway to devise a test to see if there is some truth in the matter ??

If we can prove it either way that it does or does not cause lag then I can change the jolt server setting accordingly and log a bug report with the TNG developers, and everyone will know either way.

I think the german players know best what it feels like to play with llsound 0 or 1 since their country has the worst connection to other countries ever. Mayby u wont notice it but they will. And i really dont see why it cant be 0 seeying u lot wont notice it.

And tests are useless anyway, coz the tests will be done by NL / DK ppl. They really wont notice it.

IBA thoughts:

He says it causes small lags when u shoot and it kinda fucks ur feeling.

Dont make this a big problem like the picmip thingy. Give the german players a chance and its fraki not franki

..

It will only turn into a whine if you guys start whining ... if we stick to the subject then it wont be

Obviosly people in other countries will feel it worse because of there connection but there still should be a way of proving or disproving it, people with modem connections in the uk may see this lag ?

And yes I stand corrected on the name, sorry fraki.

I don't understand it.... where is the fucking problem . It's without distinction for you to play with llsounds 1 or 0 . For germans there is a appreciable difference.

So.... where is the fucking problem to be fair and change it???

I'm annoyed about it. I really get the feeling that everybody in this Forum dislike germans.

Wahts you shrz!! problem.... ???

Hello,

Welcome to a forum. The goal of a forum is to have certain topics where people can discuss about. This means some people will agree with an issue and some people won't. What follows now is a discussion where you write down your arguments, why you agree or disagree. When someone has another opinion then you have, it doesn't really have to mean they whine or dislike you. Getting everyone to agree is not a healthy goal. If there are different viewpoints, people should recognize when to stop advancing a point of view and let a discussion stand, as it is. It's almost like in real life!

Thanks for your time.

Well assuming it does cause you guys lag with it set to 1 when its infact suppose to decrease lag then this would be a bug. If we could prove it is a bug maybe the TNG could look at it and if they did find a problem and correct it so it works properly then this would be even better for your connection than if it was turned off and further decrease you lag.

Well said Kurupt I'm glad someone understands what a forum is for :)

the connections of germany went better the last year and now the problem is that we really know why we have lag on servers like jolt, its the llsound 1 command, and if the creators of tng r saying there is nothing which can cause lag, then they created something they even dont know anything about it.

tng is for me one of the best game.dll, but with llsound enabled its even the worst. it completely changes the aq feeling its much more slower.

hope we will find a way to change that, dont think it will be a problem for u changing 1 command line in server configs.

as i remember clans like sov, gom, aid,mi etc complained much earlier about llsound 1, thats because they played alot in foreign countrys.

think about it

Like I've said I dont have a problem disabling llsound. We just need a way to prove it cause lag so we can file a bug report with TNG and they can fix it, because as you all know its suppose to decrease lag not increase lag.

Igor_Rock, JBravo and Slicer still do some work on it as far as I know, but Igor is the main develpoer from what I can work out.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/aq2-tng/

Could always try ETE to see if it has the same problem as they both use the same lowlag source code as far as I'm aware, but do correct me if im wrong.

We found a proof.

We tested many times.

Results and explanation here soon.

PS: It was rather easy to prove the difference.. So everyone can test the same... explanations soon.
