I was going to post a reply on that client settings thread, but MysteryMan closed it with the words "everyone has said their thing".

Heres my little comedy about gl_picmip.

Image

Where does the ramp start?

Image

There we go.

Image

Looks like the upper roof of cloud has melted into the middle roof.

Image

Nothing special here.

Image

Oh, picmip 0 reveals an enemy.

Image

Try taking cover behind the ramp here. Its hard.

Image

Where has the ramps on the ground gone?

Image

*Sigh..* Same as above.

Image

How far is it to the edge? Will I make it in one strafejump?

Image

Crap, didnt it use to be THREE boxes on the middle roof? Also notice how the kevlar shines.

Image

Look at the beautifull black line across the windows.

Image

Also, dont forget the enemy up there.

Image

Can you see the stealth slippers? :)

Image

There they are!

I'm just trying to say that gl_picmip high or low is both bad and good.

Also, I vote for making it illegal to use gl_picmip above 0 in EAQL. Heck, if I dont use it nobody should be allowed to use it! Right? ......

Good post, but I think the point was that if used 'correctly', things would be a lot more clearer, ESPECIALLY with the ctf skins. I also think the general idea was that it looks totally shit, but it gave a little performance boost to those playing AQ2 on a toaster.

thing is you're also using normal skins..

I've played a couple of clans recently and they have modified the osirus/chop/whatever it is skins, I'm guessing to make them fullbright. If you are playing on euro servers with the normal euro skins (orange/yellow/whatever) then picmip probably brings them up as a bright blodge rather than the dull shade you see there.

We use the ctf skins in the eaql... I just tested it for my self with picmip 5. I just saw the skins perfectly. Even better then with the textures...they kinda glow with such an ugly background.

so the screenshots posted here are just crap and not eaql based.... which was the point of it all

and since we closed the discussion about gl_picmip.. this threat is closed too... don't bother to start a new one
