Akuta's Jumping movies

Hello all.
The whole idea for this was when I was tired of looking thru other peoples demos. Instead of downloading demos and shit, and like me are too lazy for that. I decided to make movie files I could run in windows. And I do it for my own collection. And I thought if people would like to, i'd share it.
I know, i might not be the best jumper out there. The point of making a movie for each map is that people dont need to download 1gb of movies, and now you can choose what maps you wanna watch some jumps on..and get inspired to make new ones.
- Some of the movies only have 10 jumps.
- I think these movies will be in more interest for the "newbies" than for the "pro's". So don't be a cocky geek and try to tell me what should be in the movies, and that it is completely pointless to make movies "without the best jump there and here".
But constructive critisism accepted.

You can download the movies here :
I will have a "1-10" scale to tell how good I think the jumps are on each of these movies are.
NOTE! If the wmv files does not start, right click and save it.

Those 2 maps, are not my favourites, and for the record. I did found those jumps in less then 30 minutes on each map. Oh and by the way, i havent seen any jumps at all on those maps before. And maybe the "newbies" will find this more interesting than a pro like you emuemu wrote:No ground breaking jumps at all. The "coolest" jump on Simplicity you didn't even do.
A bit wank really.
But thanks for the sweet reply

Forward it if you don't like it, and as i said before, i haven't seen any jumps on each of these maps. So i don't know any jumps than my own jumps. And grenade jumps? I don't like thoseLotus wrote:Ok, the freelook intro. Is it only me who hate that kind if stuff?
tho you should've put in the bests jumps on simplicity, and the grenade jumps.
Dunno, in AQ2Gear are already demos of jumps of almost every daily played map, and they are way smaller than a +50MB movie. Although it's fine to have movies with them, dunno, lazy-people friendlier.
But, some constructive criticism, slow-mo for every jumps is unnecessary, I myself couldn't really recognize if that X jump was incredibly long or just... well... normal, normal speed it's way better for jumps, you can remember how fast you should be and recognize in time if you will make it or not. Besides, it's just too damn slow to watch. Maybe the people who will see this and learn from this like it turtle-speed, but in my opinion, it's inappropiate for a jump movie. About the "intro", way too long, and you can't say "well, don't watch it! skip it!" because there is nothing to skip. In fact, it would be much better (but in some way harder) and useful if the map and jumps were just different clips, so you share 11 clips for each map, 1 a fly-through of the map and 10 jumps, following your rules. It's like the jump demos in AQ2Gear, you can repeat a desired jump easily and you can remember a number.
Anyway, personally what you do is quite useless, there are demos and everyone can check them or send new ones and, unless it's a visual tutorial of how to make a jump, it's just the same thing. And, the other thing, I wouldn't use such a low compression, noone needs 720x480 at 1536kbps for a jump movie, it's just too much. They should be simple, small and just what's needed. Cheers.
Edit: By the way, til' now I've only watched the movie for end.bsp.

Caracol, i appritiate your constructive critism, really do. And i understand that the intro's are kinda long. I will work on it. The first movies always turns up bad. And I totally agree with the slow motion. And for the Urban movie i fixed that. And the LONG intro on the 2 first movies are being cut dramatically in the next movies. As for the moment i am working on the map cloud. And i assure you it will get better for each movie. And for the resolution, i am a beginner in compressing and rendering. I will try to make something better and experiment some more. And by the way. People can download demos, thats right. But for me, as for myself dont bother do download demos and then start quake 2 for watching them. I want them to be .avi files. But thats my own oppinion tho. And i do this for my own collection. I do not know what pack or what so ever, i found some textures here and there And yeah, i want to use another program..i made a big step moving from Windows Movie Maker tho What program you suggest? And can I ask if it's hard and so on?Uncle- wrote:Akuta, what textures paks are you using?
btw, try not to use Sony Vegas for making movies or look at settings beacuse picture doesnt look nice when you move around.
That's the format that makes the stripes, try rendering from the Q2 client at different FPS and experiment some with your compression, dunno what codec you are using (already erased the ones I downloaded, can't check), but play around with the options and you will get rid of the artifacts. I haven't had to deal with them, although I've seen them, so I can't really say the real reason/solution, I'm partially guessing.

Stripes? Do you mean the 3 flimmering stripes when I am turning around? Thats not the format, its my 3d card settings. I have the settings that fits my screen, and are the best suited for jumping in Aq2. I think I'll stick to better resolution options and about the compression.Caracol wrote:That's the format that makes the stripes, try rendering from the Q2 client at different FPS and experiment some with your compression, dunno what codec you are using (already erased the ones I downloaded, can't check), but play around with the options and you will get rid of the artifacts. What I do for the movie making is that i record from aq2, "record blabla" then im using fraps while i watch what i just recorded. Then i place the raw material into sony vegas, render as.. then open virtual dub, compression codec as xvid something. Then I upload.
These kind of stripes. I think it would be better if you record demos of the jumps, then you watch them at, dunno, 512x384 to say something, and 60FPS and capture them with AprQ2, I believe it works better than Fraps. Then you import the material to Vegas, edit it, and you don't need to render to RAW, just render directly a compression, try WMV at 1mbps or DivX with different configurations. No need to go through VDub as long as I know, I haven't had issues codec'ing with Vegas (5).

Capture them from AprQ2? How? I wont need fraps? Well, 60 fps isnt my fps anymore, it was before tho. But now it is 75. I got Vegas 6aCaracol wrote:These kind of stripes.
