I'd like to play a cw with gl_modulate 1. That'd be cool. You find out certain things like: "Wow, the lightposts in urban2 give real light!", "urban is actually set at nightfall!" and "Cliff2 HAS shadows!"

gl_modulate 3 makes every map set at day, gl_modulate 6 makes every map set at the point of a nuclear explosion. But try using gl_modulate 1 for a more realistic feel, at least on a public server.



Is this anything anyone would've wanted in a cw? At least I want it this way.

Well I play with gl_modulate 3, and some maps r too bright, ie jungle1, tj, u3 etc.

I would try to play with modulate 1 if I'm sure everyone uses it (max modulate should be set to 1 on the server).

U2 is really nice to play with modulate 3 or less.

Tho on the cw u use settings which give u as many advantages as u can get (depends on the server's limits).

i always play with gl modulate 1 and gl modulate 4, 5, 6 for the model appears better....





maps like tj, urb3, i play with modulate 0.5 and modulate 5, 6

I like to see what I have to shoot right away rather then first searching for it. And I think gl_modulate settings like these will only encourage camping, so I guess I prefer to play without the fancy things some maps got...



But that's just everyone's own opinion...

Even gl_modulate 1 is too bright for certain maps (tj, j1, rocks), and and the objects (guns, ammo, players) look too dull.



I use gl_modulate 0.5 here, and then gl_modulate 3 to make everything look nice. Then I change the sky to avoid breakin my eyes with the contrast. NO, not to cheat. It just looks better.



If this was used in conjunction with, say, the picmip extreme values... and clearly nothing looks good... well then that's another matter.

Taken to the extreme, that was kind of what I wanted to achieve. There should be possibilties for one to hide in the shadows on for example urban2.

When I started playing AQ2, it was a whole different game. A game which I liked more than what it has become today. There was no such thing as a cheater, when people was sniping they stood at the top of urban all the time and nobody complained and you could actually hide in the shadows and bandage. But as most stuff it evolved. I still love AQ2 to this day and have no intentions of abandoning it.



A problem with the gl_modulate and brightness is that it's not the same to everyone. It depends on what kind of hardware and software you've got on your PC. That makes it hard to find a good gl_modulate limit.



I would love to play a clanwar with gl_modulate 1 and sneak around in the shadows with stealth slippers on monastery.

Don't just assume that everyone sucked a while ago.



And, Den. If you would've even cared to read this thread before you replied you would have noticed that it in fact isn't any of the "whine" you speak about. This whole thing was a suggestion to people who wanted to try it. I am not in any way trying to tell you how to play, nor am I trying to tell you how I wish everyone would play.

You don't have to see everything in black or white all the time. If I like to play with shadows, do I have to play Thief? Of course not, Thief is a neat game, but it's in no way the same as good ol aq2.



And I better change the topic of this thread to something like: "Would you enjoy playing with gl_modulate 1 for extra feeling?" so that I won't need to read more dumb replies about my horrible whining.

I ve startet to play with Modulate 1 and i love it .. Cliff2 and Urban2 feels like differents map with Modulate 1 instead of 3

On some finn servers they have dark skins,as skyterr and resdog.

Then it's posible to hide with gl_modulate "3"
