Anime thread
Recommendations anyone? I've watched too many bad series lately. So many series are ruined by some annoying characters or bad storylines.
For example Full Metal Alchemist could have been really something but I just hate the two main characters. Same goes for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shinji managed to piss me off right from the start and it got just worse while the series progressed. Why does the main character have to be a teen who whines about everything.. just can't stand that.
Another thing I dislike is series without a real continuing storyline. Cowboy Bebop would be otherwise really high in my top anime list but where's the story? The whole show was just like separate episodes with no real plot development. FLCL was a bit similar but the weird humour made it work, though 6 episodes was really enough for it.
The ones that I've liked most so far:
Rurouni Kenshin OVA1:
Great story, characters, animation, music.. everything works in this one. The #1 in animenfo top100 list and I can easily understand why. The TV-series was not nearly as good as this one but atleast the first 60 episodes are worth watching if you ask me.
Berserk:
While the animation may be a bit outdated, this series has really unique characters and storyline. While the anime itself ends too short, it just made me to read the manga which continues a lot further than the anime. (Hint: watch the first episode last, it doesn't matter if you watch it first but you understand it a lot better when you watch it last)
Elfen Lied:
Released 2004 so I doubt that not many ppl have watched this yet but I really recommend that you do. Still missing subs for two last episodes but so far it's very very promising. Horror and drama mixed, extremely violent though. Body parts flying ect.. so if you have problems with that kind of stuff, avoid this one. The gore have not been overdone and it fits the series well.. not just random violence like in some american movies I could name.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien:
Pure drama but it has the most sad and touching story I've seen in any anime. Don't let the first few episodes fool you, it's not some regular teen romance story at all.
Tenchi Myuo OVA and Tenchi Universe:
One of the first series I ever watched. Made me laugh but I guess this kind of comedy is not for everyone. Some of the characters are my all time favourites (Ryoko for example) and the story is not that bad either.

One Piece... you will definitely love that

1) Trigun
http://www.ex.org/3.4/25-anime_trigun.html
Good storyline, much of cool action, lots of jokes. Best anime series I ever watched.
2) Gundam Wing/ Gundam Seed
http://www.gundamofficial.com/
There are lots of versions from the Gundams, but in my mind the first series (Gundam Wing) was one of the best. The robots are just so damn cool. Last series i watched was Gundam Seed, pretty addictive aswell.
3) Shaman King
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,690, ... _king.html
Watched it recently (got the 9 dvd's from a chinese friend of mine).
Great storyline about a boy who has shaman powers and therefore can control a Samurai spirit. The samurai/swordfighting action is great!
4) Hellsing

lol ballhead have you read his post?
he will definitly hate that one
as you liked berserk, try Iria, Record of Lodoss War. maybe Trigun or Hellsing but there are also annoying characters. Scryed is quite cool too and no nerving charakters if i remember right.

Noir is what i recommend, neither of the 2 main characters whine and it has VERY VERY weird storyline and it ends imo too early not answering all the guestions, but it was very nice to watch, always very eager to see the next episode, and its too short too, only 28 episodes, but anyway i just recommend it

Well.. I didn't intend this thread to be limited to just what I would like to watch. I rather ment this to be like a general anime discussion thread =)osiris wrote:lol ballhead have you read his post?

Both Hellsing and Noir are ok. Didn't like the story in Hellsing but Alugard and Andersson are really cool characters. And I agree with Royal^ about Noir.

There's a chopper coming in 3 days and there's a katana on top of the cafe and that's all you need to know
well there are fights over several episodes where nothing much happens
otherwise there are some silly episodes with lot's of childish jokes.
I really like Naruto but the story line is getting crappy i think.
i think it is extremly important for an anime to have a good storyline wich makes sense and tends to an end. dbz is that point more like a normal cartoon series.
there are a lot series i like btw
Chobits
D.N.Angel
Escaflowne
Full Metal Alchemist
Last Exile
Love Hina
Onegai Twins
Vandread
and the ones i mentioned above
