My Network card won't recieve anything from the switch or when i put the cable directly into the modem.
Any idea what could be wrong ?
Oh, and when i start up my computer it takes really long before my lan connection pops up in the right corner... and i can't access the properties of the Network Area either... takes about 2 mins :\
Well I should say ur network card is near "death".
I should get another network card and try that 1. If that aint working try another PCI slot maybe the one the card is in atm is broken or something.
And if none of these options work I'm out of ideas
Well since it does not recieve any information at all the problem is probably quite simple, you use the wrong type of IP cable? to link up modem-computer (or computer-computer without switch) you need a twisted TP...
Or it could be something else, heh...
You think I CARE about oHms law and the red*communists, the AC in my car or the mumbojumbo clutch-type grip, the perfect silent Avalanche that later made me to realize that I don't know anythINg.
Right.
Have you installed the network card properly?
Is the device working with the correct drivers?
Is the switch working?
Is your cable broken?
Once it's working, right click 'My Network Places' and go to 'Properties'
'Right click, properties' your network connection.
Get rid of all the crap. You only need TCP/IP and Client for Microsoft Networks.
TCP/IP Properties - set your IP addresses from scratch. Make sure it definitely isn't the same as anything else on the network.
Now you can go to Command Prompt. Start > Run > CMD
ping 127.0.0.1 - does this give you any reply?
ping <IP of the switch> - does this give you any reply?
I had sort of the same problem. For some reason the network could would not work/respond. But when it would, it would display an invalid ip address. I got a program called winsockfix...seemed to have fixed the problem. It is a winsock and TCP repair program.
as a telecom installer, the first thing i would think of was, the ISP, since u say that u dont get it even when u plug dirrectly into the modem.... but if the line has worked before, that probably is not tha case... does it work on other computers?
