Personally I found most avid female Quake 2 players to be the most hardcore and... subsequently bitchy players I had ever encountered. Then again I haven't played Quake online in a very long time. This would be back as far as 1999 I guess... on the MSN gaming zone.
They all shared the exact same characteristics.
- they all wanted to play on Q2dm1. Anything short of that and they'd cry foul and cuss like a coalminer. Of course I -hated- q2dm1 so that happened a lot when I hosted.
- they always had to have the rocket launcher. I have no idea what the infatuation with the rocket launcher was, but it straddled the line of being completely unbearable. (admittedly I eventually made this worse when I hosted hyperquake games with the proxmine/handgrenades and eventually ended up mining the RL just to piss them off.

- they were always the first to complain about something that served to their detrement. The first to complain about "Cheating" regardless of the fact that there wasn't any cheating going on. Also the first to complain the minute the game deviated in any way from the typical circlestrafe at 60mph and rocket jump and shoot your opponent repeatedly with a million bullets until they die style deathmatches that were so prevalent in those days.
So... I dunno. To me it seemed like Q2 in many ways spawned a extremely feminist subculture of female gamers who had the most reactionary views to how the game was played that I had ever encountered. Maybe females who played AQ2 were different?
