wtf is discgolf?
Hi, as a discgolf addict that i i'm and the summer comming, i thought that i will write some stuff about the game that i like, so much. It's a great way to come out with friends.
Here is some stuff about discgolf that i grabed from answers.com and edidit and added some pictures.
Disc Golf (also known as frolf for frisbee golf) is a game based on the rules of golf (referred to by disc golfers as "ball golf" or "stick golf"). It uses flying discs which are similar to the Frisbee, but usually smaller and more dense. The discs are thrown towards a target, which serves as the "hole". The targets can range from objects, such as trees and poles, to metal baskets with hanging chains to catch the discs.
Playing
Disc golf is played in a similar manner as ball golf. The initial "drive" is taken from a designated tee area. Each subsequent throw is taken from just behind the spot where the disc came to rest. Each throw is added to your tally. As with ball golf each hole is given a par rating. A common strategy for a par-three hole, as in golf, would be drive (long throw toward the basket), approach (mid-range throw to the "green"), putt (short throw into the basket). Your hole is scored when the disc has come to rest in the basket of the target or when it hits the designated part of an object if there are no baskets and it is an object course.
A typical course would be 18 holes. Many smaller courses have only 9 holes.

Target
in disc golf is usually a metal basket that is suspended parallel to the ground about two feet from the ground, and attached to a vertical pole that is a few feet tall. To better allow discs to come to rest in this basket, chains are suspended from another circular section near the top of the pole and allowed to hang limply to a point where they are connected to the pole in or near the receiving basket.
Rules
Disc golf is unique in that PDGA ( http://www.pdga.com/ ) rules, based in player conservation efforts as well as fair play, make it a violation to cause damage to the course's flora. With most courses not requiring greens fees, the relative low cost of discs, and tournament fees still fairly low, the disc golf social structure may be among the most egalitarian and relaxed in organized sports.
Discs
There are a wide variety of discs, divided into three basic categories: putters, approach discs, and drivers. There are several classes of drivers intended for different distances. Mid-range drivers tend to be the most versatile discs, and are very good for beginners. For longer drives there are many variations of long-range and extra long-range drivers.

If you are thinking of buying a disc, buy a Midrage like Roc, stingrey, Buzz and don't buy a driver becuse you will not trow longer with it becuse it takes some technique to win be using a driver.
And if you live near Tampere, Finland. I recommend that you go and watch European Disc Golf Open 25-27 august, the best players in the world will be there and it will be a realy nice event. And mabye you will see me if i qualify =) . ( http://www.opendiscgolf.com/ )

And a link to some more movies.
It not so much spread on it yet, but soon very soon =) , it's quite popular in USA, Sweden and Finland.
Sweden got there first disc manufacturer this year called Latitude 64 ( www.latitude64.se ).
It's to main brands Innova ( www.innovadiscs.com ) and Discraft ( www.discraft.com )
It's a great way to enjoy a nice summer day with some friends and beer.
And it's not as strict as ordinary golf, just go out and throw.

have you seen people playing other sports with frizbee?
people play organised games in a park near me. it looks a bit like netball but with a frizbee. so if you catch it you cant move, you have to pass it to someone else then run around and catch it again.
looks like they are having fun, lots of trick moves and fast passing
yay for summer, boo for not getting any decent snowboarding in this winter...BOOO

suds ya it's called Ultimate frisbee, and they use a much larger frisbee that floats more in the air and it's easyer to grap, not like a disc. you don't want to grap a discgolf disc, it's much sharper and harder and flighs much longer.
The worldrecord in distance with a discgolf disc is 250 meter. Sett by a Swedish player Christian Sandström. but that is done in the nevada desert with sick winds.
I throw about 140-150 meter and i throw quite long. so 250 meter is nothing to aim for =) .
