Hi-res weapon textures

Post by Vermin »

I grew bored of waiting for someone to make decent weapon skins for this game. Sure, some have made "32-bit" weapon skins but all they did was raise the color depth. With .png, .jpg etc. textures the whole idea is that you can make the resolution bigger, for instance 2x the original resolution. I've ripped these textures from others so I take the credit only for photoshopping it all together (which almost drove me mad since it's almost like a lottery to get everything into correct places.. ). So basicly I don't have the permissions to rip their skins but what the heck is anybody going to do with some aq2 textures nowadays, you can't rip 'em for new games or make a profit out of them. And not even one .txt which came with the textures denied using it for one's own purposes.

These textures require a client which can replace .pcx files with .png ones. There are also alternative versions of some weapons which are also included in the pak, you just have to go and rename "skin.png" to something else and then rename the "skin2.png" in the same folder to "skin.png", simple, yes? So now you don't have to come and ask where teh f*** are the other textures assuming that you managed to read this far :) Oh and all the textures require the original aq2 models to work properly and these do not come with the pak. If you can spot any weird thing or plain errors and want to complain then take a screenshot, mark what is wrong there so at least I'll know if I became blind for my own mistakes while working with these textures. So anyway, here are the screenshots (only links because they are huge, like 500-600kb per pic):

Edit: After I got the information about the original posting of the RQ3 item and weapon models being done without a permission I removed the item pak due to copyright infringement.

Looking good, great job. Won't use them though, I like my weapon skins as they are now.

Well you got the grenade already and I'm not gonna do any items since these ones from reaction quake3 are nice enough (there isn't any ammunition in this pic but those have been replaced too):

You can use these with the newest aprquake by using the gl_replacemd2 "1" command which replaces the md2 models with md3 ones.

Edit: And I'm not distributing those RQ3 items anymore like I've stated in my first post.

That's a nice ss but the implementation is still limited to one client so the regular skins will have to do. And not everyone can use maniac's client :( p.e. i can't. So the idea keeps for any1 interested :bday:
