Compressing raw-aq2 movieclips?

Post by tommen »

Hello! Seems that this AQ2 forum has changed a bit since last time I logged in. :)

Well anyways I have a little question about how to compress raw aq2 materials. I'm using the latest Apr client to export dm2 files to avi. That process works perfectly, but my avi files are really getting a huge size, coz it's uncompressed of course.

How should I compress these movieclips without loosing all too much quality? Later I will use these compressed movieclips in some video editing softwares.

thnx!

I wouldn't recommend to edit already compressed video material, but if you really want to, you can use the same video editing software to render each clip in a compressed format, DivX or WMV or whatever you want to.
I doubt you can capture compressed video from AQ2, but I might be wrong. And I suppose you are capturing in an already small resolution, that is, the one you will use later to release the edited video, unless you have any other plans concerning the edit itself.

But I insist, it is not a good idea to work (with effects and such in an editing software) with compressed files. If you are having storage problems, you should change your workflow and edit RAW material as you capture it from the game, render the already edited clips and get rid of the uncompressed material.
All this is plain theory, maybe a videomaker can answer with practical experience.

Here it goes. You can use a codec while exporting with aviexport (aprquake2). If you dont enter anyone it will ask for it if you execute the cmd. Otherwise you can set a codec with: set avi_codec "bla", bla can be divx e.g.

However id suggest you to record umcompressed (if you got the space), edit it, extract as raw avi and compress it later via vdub (as it was said before). Gl dude.
