Big pipes say nothing about ping.
Except the line is fully filled, then, of course, packets will queue and ping will rise.
8mbit seems appropriate for a Q2 server. One day I'll go and calculate possible bandwidth usage per second with 14 players all using cl_maxfps 120.. and whatnot.
