Quake II Evolved - Per Pixel Lighting

Post by Den »

I've been following their work for a long time. They are working on a technology map which shows off their new stuff. They are adding several new things such as; per pixel lightning, shader support, new netcode and much more. Just visit their forums and you will see daily updates.

I've played action with q2e on two or three ocasions about a year back.
I didn't bother to rewrite vid_ and gl_ settings in my config though, so it has never come to more regular use.

what does q2e work with then.. just the original quake2 single player?

will be interesting to see if they get the entire quake2 re-textured into 32-bit.

New version wont work i think, because they are rewriting netcode and other stuff, so it wont be compatible. Unless there is some1 who wants to change aq2 :)

Wow, this looks gr8.. i think it would get more ppl to the scene, because the main reason why ppl ( i know ) that doesnt want to start playing aq2 is because of the graphic, but we that have been playing aq2 for almost the start is to stuck in this good-feeling of AQ2 itself knows that graphichs isnt the
most important thing in aq2, :)

at the same time i know that noone would get angry if the qualety of the graphics would get better, im not into these graphic/how it works etc really much, but i know theres not much to do with the old Quake2 Graphics Engine, but this looks gr8! and i really hope they can make it to aq2 to :)

... aq2 is not compatible with q2e...
A good discussion is like a miniskirt; long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to pertain interest

... and I'm sure that we got at least one whole feature, and maybe as much as 2 bugfixes in that release :) The only thing that is really evolving in the aq2 community is aprq2 and r1q2.... NOTE: not saying that that would neccessarily be a bad thing... I like aq2 as it is :)

Tell me what kind of 'BIG' update you're thinking off, apart from pure graphics things, which I doubt the TNG team can do, nor anyone else in this scene. (With that I don't mean supporting 32 bit textures etc, but, for example, replacing parts of the engine dealing with shading, like done here...)

So to summarize, improvements u can think of not related to this thread. Probably not big ones, and probably not many, That's because AQ2 either needs a complete overhaul (one side of the isssue), or just fine-tuning (other side). It really depens what you want out of this game...
