I have a FreeBSD box I would like to setup a aq2 server on, but don't know where to begin. My first attempt failed, in which my friend compiled quake2 and action from the sources, but obviously we ran into lots of problems with this method.
Basically I just want a aq2 server with the "sv variant" loader. I have the variant loader on my local copy (Win32), but obviously I can't just copy this to FreeBSD.
Any help would be appreciated.

I guess your best shot to get some serverbinary to run under FreeBSD is to get to R1CH (the coder of R1Q2 dedicated) and ask him to.
You can find him on irc.edgeirc.net #qdev or just visit his website http://www.r1ch.net or his forum http://www.r1ch.net/forum
Ask there.
As for the AQ2 mod.. puh.. I can ask Maniac- and/or Igor to build a FreeBSD port. But perhaps they need access to a FreeBSD machine for testing/building.
